Who's #1!

In the spirit of keeping an active lifestyle we are sure to include the kiddos!  This past weekend they could not have made me any prouder.  My sister and I planned a family running event, I'm talking 11 people.  We did a 5k for a hero of our choice.  My sis knows a triple amputee who is truly a hero and an inspiration not only for America, but for everyone, especially after he was released from the military.  It was an honor being able to race in his name!  Thank you Rusty, for everything!
The kids of course knew what we were doing and decided they would really kick it up a notch.  Daddy ran with his baby girl and I ran alongside my Pickle.  He and I got off to a little bit of a later start but still, Pickle had determination in his eyes and his racing shoes on.  Okay, he really was wearing the wrong shoes because he left his running shoes at school!  Anyway, right around the 1.5 mile marker we passed up my dainty little girl and happily left them in our dust!  Not once did my little man even think of giving up, he ran the entire way and when he went through the finish line all I could see was a huge smile on his face!  My heart was brimming with pride!
His official time: 33.29 minutes!  He is a pretty awesome kid!  Kaykay came in just 3 minutes after him and the best part was that we got to cheer on as she pulled every ounce of energy she had left to sprint it to the finish.  Not to bad for the first timed race of my kiddos' life...
Later, at breakfast Pickle got a big surprise when the host of IHOP anounced his name specifically and that the table for the "#1 runner" was ready!  It's not very often his eyes get as big as they did at that moment, he was unequivocally on a high and he deserved every bit of it!!!

Run Day is Fun Day!!!

Whoa...it's been awhile huh...  Life, as always gets busy and I've been neglecting the cyberworld because of it and tonight while I can't seem to find sleep or it can't seem to find me, I decided to post a short blog.

Before I moved out here in this beautiful southern state I had a pretty good handle on my running.  I can't say that running is my favorite thing to do and although I doubt I'll push myself to run more than 6 miles anymore I have been inspired to get my feet pumping again.  It all started when a friend asked me to join her in a 5k a couple of months ago, since then I've been scouring the web and community for more events.  So far I've been able to participate in only 2 but we have one coming up this weekend, which the whole fambam will be doing!!!

Now like I've mentioned I used to do a good bit of running before my move, but didn't feel the need to continue as vigorously since I've been so happy with my Beachbody workouts.  However, those have definitely paid off because not only did I beat my own personal time, but I even placed 1st for my age group in the last run!!!  The ironic part is that I didn't even know I had until my dentist called me with an opening and told me she saw me at the race and congratulated me for winning!

I am excited to know that my workouts have been helping me maintain great stamina and excelling as well as I have.  Oh and a big thanks to mah babes for running with me and encouraging me all the way.  I can't wait for this weekend when we roll deep with our whole fam at the next 5k!!!

Resolve to Commit

With the new year upon us we all start thinking of those special goals we strive to accomplish.  Sadly, not everyone can/will achieve their new found goals.  This year I had quite a few aspirations of my own, but I'm not too keen on the idea of faltering mid-year.  So for 2011 my resolution is to just commit to myself and to my objectives.  What are they?  My big one is to help others, whether it be with their health or by simply volunteering in the community.  This past Christmas my daughter showed me how great it is to do more than just focus on getting people healthy.  There are others out there that merely need a shoulder and an ear or someone to hand them a plate of food.  Life is too good to waste by hoarding generosity and love.  So live, and love, and commit to what will fulfill your life this year.

Happy New Year Peeps!!!
